Santosh Madhavan Amritha Chaithanya

Yet another godman was under scanner when the police raided a 16-suite ashram in Kochi on Thursday. The godman, Amritha Chaithanya alias Santosh Madhavan, is wanted by Interpol since 2004 for fraud committed in the United Arab Emirates.
Interpol has issued a red alert against Santosh Madhavan, aged 35, and Saifudeen Alikanu, aged 47, after the Dubai government issued an arrest warrant against the duo in a fraud case. The global agency’s website says the culprits speak English and Urdu. While Madhavan hails from Idukki district in Kerala, Alikanu is a native of Thiruvananthapuram.
The police raid follows an expose by a Malayalam weekly establishing the identity of the godman, known under the pseudonym Amritha Chaithanya. The report says that Madhavan and his accomplice had invested crores of rupees in real estate in Kerala and built up a network of influential friends and well-wishers.
Madhavan, in his avatar as the white-clad swamy, founded Shanthitheeram trust in his own name and his parents. The godman, a matriculate who claims to have learnt astrology and philosophy, roams around in a Mercedes Benz and invests the swindled money in building projects across the state, the weekly reports.
He has been organising “spiritual” events in the city and advertising himself in full-page advertorials in vernacular dailies for over a year. If caught, the swamy will have to be extradited to the UAE as per India’s international treaty obligations.
The police, who raided his ashram in Kochi, said they were acting on the basis of several complaints. “We have got some complaints against the ashram. We are investigating the dealings of the institution,” special branch assistant commissioner Jayachandran Nair said. The team found only a handful of staff in the ashram-guest house. Madhavan’s whereabouts were not known.
Interestingly, the police found a wedding invite of the godman from his ashram. Madhavan got married to a girl from Palakkad last year.

A rival to Santosh Madhavan

KOCHI: Two Santosh Madhavans of Kerala are giving the police a tough time.
On Thursday, the police thought that they had to deal with only one Santosh Madhavan alias Amrithachaitanya for being involved in frauds in Kerala and Dubai.
But on Friday, it turned out that there is another character from the state bearing the same name and wanted by the CBI and Interpol for possession of weapons in the Mumbai blast case.
Sources said that the Mumbai-fame Santosh Madhavan has a brother called Prikesh Kumar Madhavan. It was from Prikesh that the police then seized most of the weapons. Amrithachaitanya has three brothers.
The portals of CBI and Interpol make clear the differences between the two men. On the CBI website, the name ‘Santosh Madhavan’ is included in the list of ‘Wanted By Interpol, New Delhi’. His date of birth is June 7, 1960. His place of birth is given only as Kerala, India. He speaks Malayalam and Hindi. The offence against him is possession of sophisticated weapons.
Now look at the Dubai-fame Santosh Madhavan. The Interpol portal names him as ‘Madhavan Santosh’ in the wanted list. His date of birth is March 18, 1973. (This is the actual date of birth of ‘Amrithachaitanya’).
The place of birth is Kattappana, Kerala. The languages he speaks are English and Urdu. His associate is Saifudeen Alikannu. Curiously, the picture of ‘Amrithachaitanya’, which was available on the Interpol portal on Thursday, was missing on Friday.
Even Interpol seems to be confused over the two Keralites.

Santhosh Madhavan of Kerala - Interpol has issued a look-out notice

KOCHI: The City Police on Saturday night searched the residence of Santhosh Madhavan on whom Interpol has issued a look-out notice.
The police action comes on the basis of the complaint lodged via e-mail. The case against Santhosh Madhavan, also known as Amruta Chaitanya, was that he cheated an Indian national of four lakh Dirhams in Dubai and the Interpol website said arrest warrant had been issued in Dubai against him.
As there was no one at the apartment at the Royal Stadium Mansion complex at Kadavanthra, the police party broke open the lock and entered it. During the search the police took into custody a tiger skin, estimated to be worth nearly Rs.1.5 lakh, hundreds of adult film CDs, registration documents of land, a police officer’s uniform, some ganja, among others.
The search was led by P.M. Varghese, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam.
Inspector General, Ernakulam Range, Vinson M. Paul, and City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham visited the place.
Police searched the guest house owned by Santhosh Madhavan on SRM Road here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that Santhosh Madhavan in whose name a look-out notice has been issued on the website of the CBI on charges of possession of sophisticated weapons is a different person.
